Our Girl on the Outside

Monday, January 16th, 2012

It’s been a while since we introduced a new blog or series of regular musings for all you ShiverWrigglers, so here you are: fresh off the farm (or perhaps out of the oven), Elysia will be serving up a tasty morsel for you each Friday (usually) on the subject of the week’s news. A headline here, an apology there, a half-forgotten addendum somewhere else: the inspiration might come from anywhere within the documented press and could take any form. Well, any form of poetry that is.

Yes, that’s right. Today’s times in rhymes. Yesterday’s news in haiku. And, because clearly not all poetry rhymes (and also because we can’t think of any more rhyming examples off the top of our heads but think three examples would be quite neat and tidy), last week’s headlines in sonnet form.

Check back later this week for the first from Our Girl on the Outside.

The Return of Vague Wanderings

Sunday, October 2nd, 2011

Over a year ago now Vague set sail (well, jumped aboard a train) from Sheffield to go and spend several weeks living alone in the wilderness. He loved it, and so did many ShiverWrigglers; from the moment he set up his temporary camp, to the building of his rather fabulous shelter, to the moment he escaped shortly before Scotland froze over for several weeks.

In the next couple of days Vague will be strapping on his travelling shoes once more and bidding adieu to his nearest and dearest (spoiler: well, most of them) for another few weeks, to return once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more.

But do not shed a tear! For he will be updating us with delights, both photographic and written. Keep an eye on the Twitter feed for his shorter updates, and keep checking the site for more detailed recountings of his adventures.

And fret not, my friends, if you missed his travels last year. You can still catch up with them all on the site.

Exciting times!

Well, would you look at that!

We have a(nother) whole new look!

We loved being all dark and mysterious, but in the coming weeks when the nights are closing in, we thought some of you ShiverWrigglers might prefer something a little less, well, dark and mysterious*. So here you go: one fresh, clean ShiverWriggle site.

Enjoy!

*Well, on the outside. We’ve no intention of altering the content. Not that it’s all dark and/or mysterious, of course.

This Week.

Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

Due to unforeseen circumstances, there won’t be any website updates this week after all (we know, we know, it’s just not good enough…), but Elysia will be updating the ShiverWriggle Twitter feed so keep your eyes peeled for Edinburgh and London updates. We’ll be back with a vengeance next week…

This Week, Next Week…

Friday, August 12th, 2011

The eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed that there haven’t been any updates this week. This is due to nothing more sinister than the fact we’re on holiday. Rest assured next week will bring material from Craig Forshaw, the final instalment of Harlan’s Thoroughgood’s ‘Tomorrow’s Atrocities’ and something from Elysia. We don’t know what yet, but we do know she’s heading to Edinburgh briefly next week, so it might be something about her Festival exploits.

So until Monday, ShiverWrigglers, adieu! And make sure you have a most fabulous weekend. That’s an order.

New Clothes

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

Hello again, ShiverWrigglers. Or, if you’re new round these parts, greetings and salutations!

Well, here you go: what do you think? ShiverWriggle’s all clothed in brand new attire, and shamelessly flaunting her wares like only she knows how. If you are new to ShiverWriggle, you’ll probably want to check out The Story and peruse the various offerings that have accumulated over the last couple of years.

If you’re not so new and are already familiar with ShiverWriggle and her delights, then you’re probably wondering where things are. Don’t worry, a quick reccy of the new site layout should answer all your questions. In fact, once you get your head round the differences you’ll probably find that it’s easier to find what you want. There are, though, a few continuity issues to point out: each group of new posts has been sent live at the same time (e.g. all ‘Shorts’ went live at the same time) so these won’t be in date order as they were previously. Where this matters (i.e. with certain musings and blogs) the entries which have been copied across have been numbered. We’re not going to keep this up as everything from now on will be sent live in the right order, but it does mean that if you stumble across older entries and aren’t sure in which sequence they originally leapt onto ShiverWriggle’s pages, then where it’s relevant they’ll be numbered (examples include Elysia’s ‘Irregular Musings’ and Vague’s blogs).

Other issues are that all previous permalinks have been broken. We thought long and hard about rectifying this, but in the end we decided we wouldn’t. Yeah, sorry about that. This does mean that if you’re a contributor and are linking to ShiverWriggle from your own site, you might want to double check and update your link(s). On the plus side, our lovely little search function will help you find your entry/entries nigh on instantly.

What else…? Ah, yes. If you’re looking for ‘Things That Made Me Smile Today’ then you won’t find it on these pages any more. We’ll explain this further in the next handful of days. Likewise, ‘This Week We Are Mostly’ will continue on our social networking pages but not online here.

Nearly finally, we really hope you like the new look site: and huge thanks to the fabulous Lucius for donating some fabulous photographs to adorn the sliding menu at the top of the site. It’s certainly going to make it much easier for us to share all manner of media content with you all, update the site, review the look and feel of the site… Quite simply, we love it. We hope you do too.

We’ll update you all very soon on some of the developments we have in the pipeline. Now we’ve got the site updated there’s going to be no stopping us.

Oh, and finally: it’s ShiverWriggle’s second anniversary today. Thanks to everyone who has supported us all and the site since it was launched all those months ago. We’re chuffed to bits, and are pretty proud of our girl Shiver. Thanks for being there.
